Mr. Syed Shayan Ahmed is the Director Law Programme and Co-Founder of Themis School of Law and is part of the teaching faculty for Law of Trusts & Equity and Public & Constitutional Law courses. He has also previously taught various other modules of the LLB Programme, including Islamic Law, Commercial Law and Contract Law.
He, along with the other founders, envisioned the establishment of a top quality law school in Karachi, which would not only focus on the academic success of the students but would also have a strong emphasis on development of supplementary programmes which would build the lawyering skills and intellect of its student body. To this end, Themis School of Law has pioneered and introduced various vocational courses which complement the LLB (Hons) curriculum.
By way of background, Mr. Syed Shayan Ahmed is a law graduate of the University of London and is enrolled as an Advocate and is a member of Sindh Bar Council and Karachi Bar Association. He also attended the University of North Florida, USA prior to his LLB (Hons) where he studied for an undergraduate degree in Political Sciences.
Having formally started his legal career from a top-tiered corporate law firm in Pakistan, where he was involved in major transactional and commercial matters, including advising on Pakistan’s first LNG Import Terminal Project set up at Port Qasim, Karach, as well as leading multiple transactions including structuring and legal documentation of complex Islamic financing products worth over PKR 3.5 billion, Mr. Ahmed has, over time, developed considerable expertise in both contentious and non-contentious matters relating to Company and Commercial Law, Banking and Finance including Islamic Finance, Property and Real Estate Law, Medical Negligence Law, Power Projects, Procurement Laws, Family Laws, Islamic Inheritance Laws including cross-border succession matters, Trademarks, and Labour and Employment Laws. He continues to provide advisory services to multiple organisations and individual clients on diverse array of legal matters and is also a trainer and faculty member for various executive education workshops and diploma programmes.
